Tests Indicated For Women To Evaluate Defects In The Uterus And Fallopian Tubes Once the ovulation takes place, the egg is caught by the fallopian tube entering into it towards the uterus. After being released in the upper part of the vagina, spermatozoa “swim” through the cervix and then up the uterine body, finally entering the fallopian tubes in search of the egg. The union of the spermatozoon and the egg occurs in the tube. This is why the evaluation of the uterus and the fallopian tubes is essential, as healthy fallopian tubes and uterus are required to achieve a normally developing pregnancy. Transvaginal Ultrasound This test allows to view the uterus and detect abnormalities such as myomas, which can be interfering with the implantation or cause miscarriages. Hysterosalpingography It is used to determine defects in the uterus and tubes, by means of an X-ray procedure. This enables to examine the uterus for myomas, polyps, etc. that may prevent the embryo from implanting or cause a miscarriage after the implantation. This test allows to evaluate the condition of the fallopian tubes which, as already said, are crucial for the union of the gametes.
Hysteroscopy This is used to examine the inside of the uterus more closely when the hysterosalpingography has already detected alterations. It is a surgical procedure by which an optical instrument is introduced into the uterus to view the uterine cavity and resect any growth there might be.
Laparoscopy This is a minor surgical procedure, which is performed in the operating room and under general anesthesia. Through a small incision in the navel, it enables the examination of the internal genital organs (ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus) and thus the detection of alterations such as adhesions, endometriosis, tubal occlusions, myomas, etc.
