Tests Indicated For Women

To Evaluate Absence Of Ovulation Or Ovulation Failure

Taking Your Basal Temperature

This test is used to determine alterations in ovulation. We know that after ovulation the corpus luteum is formed with its corresponding progesterone secretion. This hormone causes a temperature rise of 0.5-1 degrees Celsius.Keeping a daily record of the rectal temperature during a whole month, you will be able to infer whether ovulation occurred.

Hormonal Dosages

The patient undergoes:

A) Basal tests (between the second and fifth days of the cycle) that measure the levels of the follicle stimulating hormone, the luteinizing hormone and prolactin. We will also evaluate the functioning of the thyroid gland by testing the levels of Thyrotropin, Triiodothyronine, Thyroxine, Antibodies anti microsomal fraction, and androgens such as dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate fraction and testosterone.
B) Tests to detect ovulation such as serum LH and estradiol tests, which are performed between the ninth and twelfth days of the cycle, to evaluate the ovulation peak. We can also measure the levels of the luteinizing hormone (LH) in urine by means of an ovulation predictor kit available in pharmacies.

Gynecological Ultrasound

This test is performed during the menstrual cycle to check for ovarian cysts, uterine myomas, etc. And we will also perform it in the middle of the cycle confirm the existence of a growing ovarian follicle (containing the egg). Ultrasound is essential for monitoring ovulation in all fertility treatments.

Biopsy Of Endometrium

This test is ordered in some cases depending of the doctor's decision and consists in sampling a little piece of endometrium by means of a biopsy performed after menstruation. This allows to evaluate whether the response to progesterone is adequate (you can infer both whether ovulation has actually occurred and whether this is a normal or abnormal ovulation).
